'just one of a few blogs I I keep. This was the first but I soon moved my attention to LiveJournal where I've posted regularily since '01. I'm going to try to mirror that site here, at least via RSS and also display galleries of my website. And, I just might start using this for something else... I'm open to suggestions. Peace, Ed Book

rain rain rain stopped me from planting... before the rain a couple days ago - a sweetgum at the end of the driveway as a focal point when approaching on nika trail. a giant dogwood (cornus controversa) beside the hole that is to be a pond someday to shade the surface... these trees are now about ten or twelve feet tall. 'still have more to plant - a red maple (acer rubra) near the southeast corner of the house in the boulder garden - I've given up on a pond there among the rocks... maybe a water feature - small waterfall later... the maple will probably be too large for the location but I want shade there for the parking area and for the house entryway/greenhouse... in feb, I'll plant vine maple in a grouping in the shade of the maple and among the boulders... near the red maple - with a southern exposure, a witchhazel... four season tree that will tolerate the sunny spot... south of the house on the northfacing slope a large royal star magnolia - it will be a challenge getting it up the slope with the handtruck... some rock rose bushes just above the future wall and hydranga behind them... then, behind them, lilac... the bank will be covered with landscape cloth and cedar mulch as it looked bad this year with the grass growing from the neighbor's wild seed spread though I pulled it all out roots and all... the late summer annual wildflowers choked out the grass but it never looked other than a mess... I want low maintenance. so, it'll be bushes next year... I have some rhodies to put in too along the tree line south of the driveway... now I wait for the rain to abate...
